2010 diesel cars in the USA: here’s the lineup
by Steve Watkins on September 17, 2009
There really hasn’t been any significant increase in the number of diesel cars available on the US market since our 2009 diesel car post from last year. While common in Europe, stricter emissions requirements in some states and the recent temporary bout of high priced diesel fuel here has most car manufacturers hesitant to invest the money for what has only shown to be a small segment of the market so far in the United States.
Here is this year’s list of which 2010 diesel cars that automobile manufacturers will be offering:
ACURA:
Acura does not offer a diesel model.
AUDI:
AUDI Q7 and A3 TDI, courtesy Audi
A3 2.0 TDI clean diesel is available, details here, a small hatchback that gets 30 mpg hwy, 42 city.
Audi Q7 TDI will be Audi’s diesel engined SUV, getting 17 mpg city, 25 mpg hwy. Details available here.
These vehicle will take a maximum of B5 biodiesel.
BMW:
From BMW USA:
“We offer two diesels, the BMW Advanced Diesel 335d and the X5xDrive35d. They have been on sale since January of this year.”

New Vehicals for 2010
It's been six long years since a major Audi A8 update and the quad-ring brand looks as though it's finally ready to deliver its new heavyweight. The new Audi A8 has been caught testing on multiple occasions and we've come across it again testing at where else but the Nurburgring ahead of the A8's 2010 Detroit auto show debut.
As in the past, the car our spy photographers spotted is heavily camouflaged so as not to give away any too many hints about its new body work. Still, we've gleaned enough from our growing collection of pictures to see that Audi has updated the A8's styling with a sharper, edgier look that should make it stand out in Audi's field of rounder designs. Accenting the ultramodern look are the latest version of Audi's swoopy LED driving lights and possibly a slight increase in size to give it a more commanding presence.

BMW Z4
BMW is seriously considering launching its new turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the Z4 sports car, Motor Trend has learned, even after M Division chief Ludwig Willisch said before retiring last summer that the engine was designed for a 1 Series M.
Why the Z4 before the 1? Product cadence. BMW won't have an all-new 1 Series until calendar 2012, the 2013 model year in North America. The turbo four is being readied, and BMW isn't in the habit of launching an all-new engine in an all-new car at the same time. BMW is basing its turbo four on the 2.0-liter gas direct-injection four, rated 170 horsepower and 155 pound-feet in normally aspirated form.Read more:

2010 Ford Fiesta

Sub-compact-size models that manufacturers now refer to as "B"- class cars. Some thought America didn't care. Then crude oil passed $100 a barrel and gas prices approached four bucks a gallon. People care now and are buying these B-cars. Ford sold its original Fiesta here three decades ago. It was a hit, and the Blue Ovals are hoping for a repeat performance with the new one, which hits our shores in calendar year 2010.Read more:
Ford teased us with several concept cars named Verve, all of which point to the new production version, which is globally named Fiesta. It goes on sale this fall in Europe and other markets in three- and five-door hatch variants. The sedan version, with a conventional trunk, is currently being designed for the U.S. and Asia and isn't pictured here. But it's not hard to figure what it'll look like. "Take the five-door Fiesta," says Ford global design chief J Mays, "and graft on the trunk of the Verve sedan concept, and you'll be 99 percent there." The overall package is more substantial looking than the Fit and better proportioned than the Versa. The jury is still out on whether or not the hatchback model Fiestas will be sold here.Read more:
